Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about hotshot truck insurance coverage.
What makes hot shot truck insurance different from regular commercial trucking insurance?
Hot shot operations usually run a heavy-duty pickup or medium-duty truck with a flatbed or gooseneck trailer rather than a tractor-trailer, and insurers classify them on the actual truck, trailer, freight, radius and for-hire status. Getting that classification right is what makes the coverage fit the way you actually haul.
Does my personal auto insurance cover my hot shot truck?
Personal auto policies are generally not written for hauling freight for hire. Check your policy's business-use terms, and talk to us about a commercial policy built for the work you actually do.
Can I insure the equipment I've added to my truck?
Added equipment such as a flatbed body, headache rack, toolboxes or a gooseneck hitch can usually be scheduled on the policy. List each item and its value when you request a quote so it is valued correctly.
Does where I haul affect my coverage?
Yes. Your operating radius, the states you run in and whether you haul interstate for hire all affect how your operation is classified and which requirements apply. Interstate for-hire carriers must meet federal minimum liability limits.
What information do I need to get a quote?
Your USDOT and MC numbers if you have them; each truck's and trailer's year, make, model, VIN and value; any parts or accessories and their value; your drivers; what you haul; and your operating radius.
